Recently a 13-year-old Florida girl hanged herself after topless photos of her led to bullying at school. Has 'sexting' been discussed in your house? Weigh in with your thoughts.

My children are all adults now, but if they were still teens, we'd be having this conversation.

    Being as Child Internet Safety Advocate and having a 5 year old I try to keep myself and my wife up to speed on these issues.

      Yes. It's too important to ignore.

      I hope that by discussing it early on it won't become a major problem with my daughter. She has been told what it is and she can't do it.

      I will though, when they are a bit older (they are currently 8 and 6 years old).

        Recently my 13 year old daughter received a request from a boy for oral sex. Sexting is very real and the sources surprising. Our family knows the boy who sexted our daughter. Fortunately she told him "no" and she has consciously avoided him. We have talked about sexting and we will monitor her texts and e-mails. It is amazing what people will put in cyberspace.

        My daughter is still to young for this type of activity, but I feel even those who are old enough for it, i.e. cell phones and computers, are not mature enough to understand the possible life long consequences of their actions. It is imperative that parents keep the lines of communication open to their children. This type of incident is not only a daughter thing to worry about. I am sure there are boys that are just as susceptible to this type of activity also.

        My son is just hitting these ages. It scares me to death. I also feel they are not mature enough to understand consequences of their actions. As a single mom I have had all the talks at age appropriate times and hope that he keeps those lines that I have opened open. I do monitor his texts and computer work and friends. Parents have to stick together also, if they see or hear something talk to the next parent. It could save some feelings, a reputation, a friendship, maybe even a life.
