Do you think the 'Captain Underpants' series should be banned from schools?

The "Captain Underpants" series isn't a favorite for everyone. In 2002, the American Library Association ranked the books among those most frequently complained about by parents and educators. In addition, that year, "Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants" was removed from an elementary school in Page, N.D., after a parent objected to the book's language and "innuendos." Do you agree or disagree? Have you let your child read this series? Share your thoughts.

Who cares! As long as my kid is reading a book and not playing a video game I'm happy.

There are so many books out in the world.

Why have ones inside a school that don't send a positive message or encourage positive behaviors... ?

The title alone is inappropriate for elementary school children.

How about some humor??  Sometimes I think if I hear that stuffy, anal word "inappropriate" one more time I'll scream. This generation of parents is the stuffiest, most humorless, most anal generation of people the country has ever seen. Lighten up. Let your kids learn to laugh.

With the lack of discipline applied in many, many homes today, the devourous lack of respect by them to their elders and those in authority, and the commonality of "laugh"ter at things that I, Sharon and many others were taught as being rude or inappropriate, it is Obvious that this kind of reading material should Not be in a public school system as an 'upholding' example of mentoring.

This 'superhero' is crude, vulgar, disgusting, inappropriate and Very much the type of example we DO NOT want our children to learn from..and we can only hope that the years we've given to them in wisdom and training helps them to recognize a negative influence when they see it (like NATB, who obviously doesn't know appropriate from Inappropriate behavior).

To him I say Scream on .. and to those of us who have morals, long live Miss B.

Amen, MsGen! As a teacher I'm appalled at some of the books on the shelves, and roll my eyes when people wonder why many kids are so disrespectful and crude...ultimately it's up to teachers to not stock these books in their classrooms, and parents to not let their kids read them.

I haven't read the book, however, I do not believe in censorship. I do not like the Harry Potter series, but I did not suggest anyone burn the books. I believe it is the parents responsibility to monitor their child(ren)'s reading material as well as their behavior. Teachers should use the material to point out what is socially acceptable and what is not.

Hey, what's funnier to a kid than underpants? (Okay, flatulence...) The books are funny and poke innocent fun at authority. If I had only read books that were sanctioned by my teachers, I would not be the avid reader that I am today. We spend enough time filling our kids' heads with images of being abducted/ molested by strangers, I think they can handle graphic depictions of tighty whities.

The books are the perfect way to get children disallusioned with mandatory schooling to read. They were my favorite series when I was in elementary school, and anyone who wants to ban them clearly a. hasn't read them or b. hasn't got thier priorities straight.
