Let’s face it, everyone does it. While deemed inappropriate, inconsiderate and frankly disgusting in many circles of society, sooner or later, everyone passes gas. It’s simply an avoidable fact of life.
But for a one sixth grader in Parma, Ohio, it’s a fact of life that landed him in trouble. Last week, Christian Summers, 11, was punished with serving an hour of detention at Thoreau Park Elementary School after he repeatedly farted on the school bus. Some might have found it amusing (arguably Summers himself), but the bus driver didn’t.
According to school officials, Summers is a repeat offender, but is the act of breaking wind really a crime worthy of this brand of discipline? Parents, do you think this boy was punished unfairly, or was the school justified in its action? Are the boy's actions symptomatic of a larger cultural problem? SO the kid farted, thats no reason for detention.. I'm SO GLAD my daughter dogo to this school. She has stomach health probs, She would NEVER GET out of detention..Lets follow the driver, IF he ever farts in public, Put his Stupid ass in jail for 24 hrs..
I work with teenage boys, and YES, they pass gas A LOT! There is a difference between farting because it is a natural body function and farting because it smells and is disgusting! I think the child deserved the detention if it was causing a regular disturbance on the bus or if the child was doing it on purpose. I am hoping that the bus driver exhausted all warnings and other options before resorting to the detention though! Children are becoming increasingly disrespectful and if they can get away with it, they will continue to do it. I would like to think that the adults in my childs' life are able to make sound, mature decisions when it comes to caring for/disciplining my children.
We don't get all the facts with this article. Does he have a medical condition like IBS? If so he might not have been able to help it. If this is the case he shouldn't have gotten detention. However, if he was doing it to be funny (as many males do, not all but alot) then he should be punished for it.
