As if her pointedly provocative new “adult” image hadn’t ruffled enough feathers with concerned parents, teenage trouble-magnet Miley Cyrus is unwittingly courting controversy once again. As reported in The Scoop, TMZ obtained a new video of the former “Hannah Montana” siren smoking from a bong during a party at her home in late November -- although the smoke inside the bong is purportedly not what some might immediately assume it to be. TMZ sources assert that Cyrus was smoking salvia, a legal, natural herb. As Miley is reduced to fits of cackling, there’s a liberal amount of swearing going on – as well as the inexplicable playing of some ersatz grunge rock by ’90s B-listers, Bush.
Often referred to as the “magic mint,” salvia can have powerful hallucinogenic effects, but is perfectly legal in most of the United States and has become popular with college-age kids.
The video, presumably copied or stolen from the individual behind the camera, raises more questions about Miley Cyrus’ judgment, let alone her rocky transition from tween idol to young woman. Parents, what do you think? Is this episode just one more milestone on the road to sabotaging her status or is it just a typical teenage party scene and simply much ado about nothing? Even though it’s legal, would you want your kids trying salvia?
Also, in this wake of this video, do you still consider Miley Cyrus a worthy role model?

How tacky. Regardless of IF this IS her or IF the substance she is smoking IS legal, it's just plain tacky. She makes herself look no better than white trash in this pic...almost another Britany if you will.
It is her and the substance is legal. That said, the substance is NOT legal in many other countries and has been known to cause serious problems for those who use it. It's not harmless like pot by any means!!!
Miley is headed toward danger zones. Her parents are just another Lohan family in my opinion. Miley is way too grown up and has been for a long time. Her little sister wore an outfit that made her look like a common street walker and I think she was 9 at the time. Why can't Billy Ray/Joe/Bob whatever his name is just get a damned job and quit trying to live off his kids! Be a parent not a manager/pimp.
I think people need to get over the fact that these 'kids' eventually turn into adults. This is something that now days people wouldnt even blink at anymore - especially if its done in private and isnt a 'celebrity'. Time to move on folks, this isnt even news worthy.
Wow! Who cares which herb it is. Just shows she is no better than most of us.
no better, and no worse.
Miley Cyrus is not a role model. What exactly about her was role-model-worthy? Emma Watson of "Harry Potter" fame is a FAR better role model: doesn't have a big head, doesn't flaunt her money, is going to college, and doesn't end up on You Tube smoking a bong or flashing her underwear.
Miley is going to discover that, as quickly one climbs onto the fame pedestal, you can just as quickly fall off it. Do any kids even pay attention to her anymore?
Ooh, sorry, she's been photographed drinking alcohol underage on a handful of occasions. The reason you don't hear about it here nearly as much is because most Americans have only seen her in that role--she's done plenty more, just nothing in wide release here. She's had her run-ins with questionable behavior. Your little wizard isn't quite as magical as you think she is.
emma wasnt drinking underage stupid, in england the drinking age is not 21. She is also extremley famous and the media publishes everything, so if she had racey things like miley, we would see them on the internet and magazines. I'm not saying she is perfect, but she is a good role model. She also went to africa to learn about and help the people there and she is opening a line of organic and healthy fabric clothing with people tree
she's 18yet being a role model to young children is a total disgrace to her growing up to being a young woman. This was in her home, what kind of friends does she have whom will post the photo up on the Internet, she needs a new group of friends.
I am unsure as to why everyone thought she was some great "role model" anyway. Did parents really put that much faith in a "fake persona" to teach their childern? I am also unsure as to why anyone is surprised....next stop rehab.....
I don't care what she does, as long as "Hannah Montana" ceases to be her alter-ego RIGHT. NOW. As long as she's marketing a version of herself to five-year-olds, YES she has an obligation to keep her image squeaky clean. If she wants to be a bong-smoking, strip-teasing, f-bomb dropping, girl-kissing, sexting "adult" then she needs to drop Hannah Montana and get her merchandise OFF the shelves. She can't simultaneously live like Lindsay Lohan and profit off of Hannah Montana.
Well said!
She already has. That's why she is described as "FORMER Hannah Montana" in the article. The final season of the show has already wrapped and she will never be Hannah again.
SHE is not the one with Hannah merchandise on the shelves. That name and character is owned by her Disney masters. She has nothing to do with the decisions they make to use her likeness or the HM brand.
I agree with EHoff...but there is nothing wrong with what she's doing...everyone grows up...she's growing up rather nicely!...LOL...It kinda hurts that it's salvia instead of real weed though...salvia sucks!...With her money she could certainly buy the real thing! And Its time for America to lighten up on the whole weed thing because it is fast becoming Our number one herb! Hell...if it was legal at least 75% of the population would use it regularly...and thats coming...and the world aint gonna end....LOL...I love stories like this!
She's not a role model, none of these kids on tv are. My daughter sees them all making stupid mistakes and how it's ruining their lives and careers and families. If anything, these "role models" are scaring our kids straight.
I really wish more hollywood types would support legalization...I say you go girl! But leave the salvia alone! Who knows what that stuff is?? LOL!
THE WALL
Pink Floyd (lyrics by Roger Waters)
"We dont need no education!
We dont need no thought control!
No dark sarcasm in the classroom,
Teachers-leave-them-kids-alone:
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just a-nother brick in the wall.
All in all you're just a-nother brick in the wall."
It's not my place to judge Milley. I feel sorry for her. She has a beautiful career going for her, and doing one wrong thing leads to another and even maybe something worse. I know she had a problem about her parents separating. But she's a big girl now, and I pray she won't do something silly and lose her great chance at life to be somebody. A place any young girl would die for. Wake little Milley and don't ruin your life.... Be happy with what you have, when you are hurting with problems take them to God not drugs....
Poor Miley, really needs some guidance and better friends. I wish her parents could step in and guide her more. If not, she may end up just like Brittney or Lindsay L. It's a tough job, but somebody really needs to reel her in before it's too late.
People. Seriously.
Stop looking to teen idols and movie stars for your role models. They aren't. They are entertainers. I know people who turned out just like TV characters. The talk aloud in an "aside" fashion and honestly think people don't hear them. They stir up drama because they think it's what they're supposed to do, then get surprised that it doesn't get worked out by the end of the "episode". They think it's normal to spend all day in the coffee house instead of working for a living.
YOU are the most reliable role model your children will ever have. And to be that person, you have to stay with the times, relate to your children, and NOT go dinging off back to your safe-zone when the world changes around you. You have to be savvy. And if you can't handle that, you should never have had children.
You took all the words straight from my mouth! We as parents are our children's role models, not some character on tv.
Ain't nobody's business but hers .......
I feel sorry for her. It seems we are looking at the next lindsay lohan.
Miley's fame has gone to her head she acts like she a spoiled brat, completely out of control. As a parent I don't want my children relating to her in anyway. As far as her parents are concerned they lost control of her long ago she has been running them especially her mother. Her mother is manly to blame she wants the fame she gets from being Miley's mother, its sad that she was willing to allow her daughter to act like a tramp so she could have a little fame herself.Miley is annoying I'm surprised anyone wants to be bothered with her she better make lots of money while she can because no man will ever stay married to her it will be all about Miley .
Way to show you're all grown up now Miley...by doing stupid sh!t. Now let's watch the sponsors part like the red sea. I was getting tired of your cardboard cutout at Walmart anyway. Good luck kid. From here it's down hill. Your best years are behind you.
Miley, was and still is a cocky, arrogant, little girls who really gave the impresson that she's better than anyone else. If it hadn't been for her father being a famous country singer, she would not have had a career. On the Saturday Today Show, earlier, everyone seems to want to make excuses for her! She knows what she's doing. It's not like she's been sheltered from the real world. She's had more exposure than most "young adults" her age. A lot of kids have parents that are divorced or are getting a divorce. They don't go do stupid things because of. My kids never watched or got caught up in Hanna Montana or Milie Cyrus. They thought it was a stupid show. They have always said that she would become the next Linsey Lohan! What's next on her agenda?
WHO ARE YOU? [The Who, lyrics by Pete Townshend, excerpts]
Well, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
Tell me, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
'Cause I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who...are....you?"
While I'm no fan of Miley Cyrus, the fact is that she was in her own home. Therefore I don't give a crap what she was smoking.
Is it just me or does anyone else notice a common denominator in childhood stars? Maybe we should just let children be children and stop letting parents push them into life to quickly, it never ends well. Look at Spears, and Lohan, the Olsen Twins, Levotto, Jonathan Brandis, and the countless other childhood stars that have ruined and in some cases ended their lives. You have the occasionall success story like Berrymore but her younger years were plagued with disater she is one of the lucky ones.
What I think is really funny.....all this talk of Miley being a "role model', I have a 10 year-old daughter and she loves Hannah Montana for the fun/goofiness of the show.
When I ask her what she thinks of Miley, she says that she doesn't like her and she should "learn to feel better about herself". I even heard my daughter tell one of her friends the other day that maybe Miley should just stop trying so hard. I about fell over laughing!
I asked my eleven year old cousin what she thought about Miley and she said, " Ewww. She's gross. She needs to start wearing more clothes."
It seems to me that kids younger than about nine don't know or care about what Miley Cyrus does, they just care about "Hannah Montana" and "Miley Stewart". The kids between nine and thirteen know more about the real Miley, but don't like her as much. The teenagers fourteen and up are the ones that are more likely to be influenced by her bad behavior.
Honestly, I don't get the role model thing. Most people are so worried about their children copying Miley, but how would a six or seven year old know that Miley was caught smoking a bong? They shouldn't even know what a bong is. Unless your little kid reads tabloids or surfs the net, Mileys behavior won't be known to them. Even if they find out, do you expect your little girl to start smoking too? Seriously, if you (the parent) model good behavior and teach your child what is right and wrong befor they become teens, you shouldn't have a problem.
Teach your daughter that Mileys actions do not make her 'cool' or 'grown up' or 'pretty'. Educate your daughter on how to be 'classy' and 'sophisticated' and 'intelligent'. Show her some better role models like the beautiful ladies from Harry Potter or the girls from Narnia. Now that's some quality television with a good messege--believe in yourself, value your friends, do what's right, good beats evil, love is power, listen to your teachers, family is important etc...--none of that 'look, I'm a popstar when I turn blonde and sing' crap that's really just a bunch of pop culture garbage disguised as a kids show.
Miley has not been a role model for quite sometime. It's time the media and parents realize it. She should have stayed on her Hannah Montana show and grown up alittle before branching out. She will loose her fans from Disney because of her behavior. I am not sure she's talented enough to make it without them.
My thought on Miley is this....if you gear your ultra-popular tv show towards young children, and have a clothing childrens clothing line, etc,etc,...then yes you do become a role modle for children. No matter what she has tried to morph herself into as of late, the fact is she started out a role model for many young girls first!! (Thank God, my daughter never thought much of her and really cant stand her!)
Because she is a celebrity everything she does is under a microscope, its nothing knew she's known this her whole life. Its sad really, because in my opinion she's tried to transition herself into an "adult", but in reality she has turned herself into a trashy looking/acting sl*t. Like others have said, another Lindsey Lohan,Brittney Spears in the making.
My personal favorite role model of today is Taylor Swift. Fame has not changed her at all, and because my 12yr old daughter thinks so highly of her, she started guitar lessons and voice lessons almost a year ago and knows almost all of her songs now.
