Dear Beyonce,
Congratulations on your new daughter, Blue Ivy Carter! I’m sure you’re over the moon right now, whether with joy, pain meds or some combination of both. But I wanted to send you a quick note just to share your joy, and to say welcome.
Welcome to the club of moms. Life here in Momville is totally different from anything you’ve known before. Once people become mothers, many mysterious things happen. And while scientists haven’t yet pinpointed exactly why this is, for some reason, once you become a mother, you get your judge on.
When you become a mother, something happens and you start judging other people and how they parent. You do it all the time. You do it in your head, and you do it out loud. “Why isn’t that poor baby wearing a hat?” “Why is that baby wearing a hat when it’s 102 degrees out?” “Why in God’s name did they pick THAT hat?” Look, you’ve been judged before. You’re a celebrity. Heck, magazine articles are written judging you and your clothes, your shape, your music, everything. And now, that’s going to happen even more frequently. Get ready.

So here’s the thing. I get it that you were trying to make your first kid’s birth a really special and private thing. Believe it or not, even we non-celebs feel that way about giving birth (though we may not be as concerned that paparazzi will disguise themselves as nurses in order to get pictures of our stretch marks). Having a baby is an incredibly special time for all of us – even though we don’t all have $1.3 million at our disposal to put a velvet rope in front of the maternity ward.
Which, apparently, you do. It sounds like you guys went all out to protect your privacy at New York’s Lenox Hill Hospital – allegedly hiring special security guards, blocking out windows, and covering the hospital security cameras with paper. Apparently, you may even have caused some difficulties for families of other newborns who happened to be born at the same hospital as Blue Ivy – some say they had trouble getting in to see their newest family member and recuperating moms, and they’re pretty upset about it. People are judging you left and right, and it doesn’t look so good for you.

You have some PR repair work to do. Reaching out to the other people who had babies on the ward while you were there would be a great start. How about offering to cover their medical expenses as a gesture of goodwill and parenting solidarity? Every new mom and baby deserve VIP treatment, after all.
Maybe the first lesson you can show you’ve learned as a parent is one that we should all learn. We should let parenting bring us together and emphasize what we have in common with one another: our love for our beautiful children. Good luck!
Do you think Beyonce and Jay-Z went too far in their hospital security measures? Should they apologize to those who were inconvenienced?
Parents at the hospital where Beyoncé and Jay-Z's baby was born have claimed the couple's security shut them out, but the hospital denies it.

unacceptable. If you have a baby at a public hospital then you receive the same access and privileges as everyone else. You don't get special VIP treatment just because you're a celebrity.
Respectfully, sure you do - celebrities get VIP treatment all the time. This is not a cut and dried issue and a few points please.
As a mother, I say all parents should be granted the right to privacy during their hospital stay and birth of their baby. As a mother, I say all parents should be granted full access to that child while in hospital. There is no question.
We all know we live in a world with no privacy – especially celebrities. We've lost sight of the fact that they are actors/players of parts. Their private life is no one's business. PERIOD. The bigger you and/or the event are – the more you are hounded, followed, stalked by complete strangers who will stop at nothing to get to their goal regardless of your safety or the safety of your loved ones – they want YOU and whatever else they can get. WE as a people have few dignities left - little decorum or privacy in this media driven world in which we live. Everyone and everything is fair game – think Michael Jackson's ambulance ride and subsequent morgue pictures – think Elizabeth Taylor's recent death in a private suite at a well-known hospital. We as a people have few manners and support this abhorrent behavior – and that of this author/writer - and our drive for MORE and NOW info on these people – these celebrities.
Newborn kidnapping – whether cut from the mother's uterus or stolen from the hospital is nothing new. Am I suggesting this was a concern – possible the later and why not? A picture stolen or medical records forwarded for payment by hospital staff to the media – common. We have done this to ourselves.
No matter what I have ever heard, read about, watched or enjoyed as far as Beyoncé? She has always been a lady and thoughtful of others. I've no doubt she would be saddened to know ANY parents were prevented from their children.
The hospital representatives should have had an operational plan in place as they should with all people of import. Like or not - this family is of import and to kid yourselves is nothing more than fantasy. We've no way to know if that was not the case – frankly – it is not our business.
Leave them alone. Let the hospital make amends. Get on with your lives. Stop judging. The drive for information which is absolutely none of our business is an addiction in sure need of hospitalization all by itself.
They make me sick! Instead of paying a PUBLIC HOSPITAL for the whole floor. They should have paid to have a home birth! I would've been in jail if i wasn't allowed to see my baby because of their stupid above the world attitude. I can't believe the hospital allowed that! Just shows if you have the money you can buy and get anything...;/
I also wish their fans would SHUT UP! They are not the first or last to have a baby! WHO CARES!
I agree with Jennifer Williams, that is not right at all, they should of pay for the whole floor!!..Absolutely right!!.. They are not the 1st or last to have a baby!!...It's obivious that the parents were not celebrity struck, who cares what celebrity is in the hospital, when your wife just gave birth to 2 beautiful twins, and all the father was trying to do was go in the room to see his children, HOW DARE THE HOSPITAL OR SECURITY DO SOMETHING LIKE THAT, THEY ARE HUMANS TOO!!...THAT IS PATHETIC!!...THERE'S NO DOUBT THEY OWE THE PARENTS AN APOLOGY!!... To Beyonce & Jay Z, next time, have your next baby else where, if you want people to respect you, show respect for others as well!!!!..VICE VERSA!!
I used to be a huge fan of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, but am not so much anymore, and it has nothing to do with the circumstances surrounding the birth of their daughter. That being said, what do you expect? They are celebrities and they have money. Does it make what they did right? No. Will our input change anything? Nope! So why rant on about it? Just get over it!
Their behavior while at the hospital was inconsiderate to others, to put it mildly; she's clearly not like the average mother who thinks of the consequences of her actions and how they might affect others.
I am suprised the rapper didnt call his song "Pop it out" after hearing the lyrics it makes about as much sense as the security guards denying the patients in Lennox Hills Hospital access to their children and the common respect that any stranger deserves. In my honest opinion the Hospital should be sued for their flagrant disregard for their patients safety and well being. I say their safety by allowing outside security forces to block access to a hallway, blocking a hallway in a hospital can be dangerous if there is a fire or some need to evacuate the hospital.
They should apologized. If they wanted privacy she should have given birth at home . Her baby is no better than the other parent's baby.
WELL SAID!!
If my child was born on that same day and on the same floor and all those security guards tried to stop me from seeing my wife and new child, someone would need medical attention...
i dont give a damn about who they are... if they try to keep me from my family, they sure as hell won't stop me from seeing them.. and shame on anyone who defends their actions to close up the floor just because they are celebrities....
it is a public hospital... the hospital should be sued for putting other patients in harms way. what if someone went in there and stole a child? well the camera was all covered up... oops????
SHAME ON THE HOSPITAL AND SHAME ON BEYONCE AND JAY-Z
Um, I guess...every news story I've read about it thus far says that reports that they have the entire floor aren't true, and that the hospital staff/security people have no knowledge of these alleged issues - the first they've heard of them was people going public about it.
Before passing judgement, I'd rather wait and see what the reality REALLY is.
I agree. Some people are so quick to pass judgement because they dislike someone. Even if it was the situation it was the hospital's responsibility not Beyonce or Jay-Z. I am sure their minds were not on the comings and goings of other patients' family members.
I find it hard to believe they could get away with covering up the HOSPITAL's security cameras. As though a hospital is going to allow for THAT liability.
If you are that concerned about security and privacy, seems strange that you would choose a public health facility as opposed to using a set up at home if you can afford to implement the same advantages of a hospital.
Most of what we hear (good or bad) about celebrities is made up anyway.
Agree with everyone's comments, except Diane's!
No, I do not believe that Beyonce and Jay-Z went to far in hospital security and owe no one an apology. The hospital's administration was responsible for working the logistics once an agreement was reached between the couple and the hospital. I am sure the couple was unaware there were any issues because it was not up hospital administration/staff to ensure the hospital flowed smoothly and all patients were accommodated.
Beyonce and Jay-Z is not the first famous couple to block a whole hospital ward and will not be the last. So, why is everyone behaving as if this is something new and unusual? To me it is just plain hatred towards the couple. The man that complained was looking for his 15 minutes of fame. Why else would he specific ask for an apology from Beyonce and Jay-Z??? It was the hospital that he should have been asking for an apology.
With any business transaction it is up to the organization (hospital) to approve what happens, how the event is carried out, what security personnel is used, what authority the security company can impose, and who makes the final decision in case of an emergency or if issues arises. So, the hospital administration was responsible for ensuring that other patients were not inconvenient and not Beyonce or Jay-Z.
I understand any parent or relative would be upset if not allowed to visit their new addition to the family but don't blame another patient because you were prohibited for doing so. Blame the hospital administration and seek your apology from them. If the couple paid to have a whole wing of the hospital private and the hospital accepted the funds then it was the hospital's responsibility to either re-route all other mothers in labor to another facility or setup another wing of the hospital for other mothers delivering their babies on the same day.
The couple should not pay for anyone’s' expensive nor offer any apologies. They paid for a service and that service was rendered to them. It was up to the hospital to render service to the other patients and the hospital dropped the ball. Plain and simple!
Really - this is the most important thing you people have to complain about? I myself love to see a new baby that will be cherished, loved and taken care of in this world. If you can - do. whatever! Personally my time and energy is more concerned with the parents who are out there hurting and murdering their own children because they are immature, disturbed, abusing alcohol/drugs, or who knows what else. Our society is disgusting to accept the way our children are abused and neglected; along with supporting through welfare or prison programs those that commit those crimes. How many children/mothers are missing ?? It's everywhere - it seems to be an accepted epidemic. Congrats to ALL new mothers and fathers who pledge their lives to do the best they can for their children - regardless of at what level rich or poor. May God enlighten this country and make sure a caring true leader awakens us to a more peaceful, caring state.
Little off-topic don't you think?
Well maybe if people don't fawn on over them and pay absurd amounts like there an essential part of society and they deserve it, they wouldn't act like it.... the public makes them this way
Sorry to say it but Beyonce will be a MINO, a Mom In Name Only. I say this because more than likely the baby will be taken care of any number of nurses and nannies while Mommy and Daddy make music. After all we can't have something as trivial as having a child get in the way of our careers now can we?
I don't even know who they are but I do know there are so many needy people out there that could have used a bit of help instead of leasing a hospital fer cryin' out loud....
Who cares if they had a baby? It's happens every 7 seconds, in the US.
Bombero1956-3018468, how do you know what type of mother she will be? Of course, she should continue her career because that is the way she will support her daughter, right? Don't most mother's go back to work to earn income? Beyonce is just fortunate that she can hire help to make life easy for her while she work. What's wrong with that? Is this a problem because you aren't or wasn't fortunate enough to be able to hire help with your child(ren), if you have any?
Honestly, I read these posts and don't understand all of the complaints about Beyonce. It all boils down to jealous because she has not done anything that other wealthy and famous people hasn't done. I guess if you don't have wealth you would not understand the extend that wealthy people have to go through to protect their families and privacy.
This really would not be an issue if this guy, looking for 15 minutes of fame, would have directed his frustration or complaint at the appropriate source, the hospital.
They should not have brought thugs in to a hospital, that was their fault period.
Honestly, everyone needs to step back and look at how much time you are taking to criticize someone NONE of these comment-leavers know, will never know, etc. Babies are a joy and every comment here is trying to take away from that. There is a BABY here. A new life, a child. Get a life, get a clue, and have some respect for HUMANS. Are you all jealous of the financial aspect of her life and birth? Even the hospital is saying the rumors are untrue about Bey's birthing experience - one which EVERY mother advocates should be left to their own INDIVIDUAL/couples decision. Really, take a chill pill, everyone. This is Beyonce and Shawn's birth experience, baby, and life. Would everyone have preferred to criticize her for being "the weird celeb who had a home birth when the hospital was only a few blocks away?" There are more pressing things to discuss. Author of this article, please take note that you are in this group too. ALL LIFE IS PRECIOUS AND SPECIAL. Stop trying to demean that.
I'm sure the birth of their child is the only one that matters naturally not the 2 sick twins their thugs kept from their parents don,t matter that much i guess.
you have that right, every baby and mother are special! Not just Beyonce and Baby Blue, but apparently they forgot that...that's the problem here. They could have not put such a small price tag on their baby 1.3mil, when they have 100's...1M to them is $1 to us. Poor Baby Blue...jealous? not one bit...disgusted is more like it. apparently all your complaining about people having to much time on their hands...apparently you do, and yes, there are more pressing things to discuss then defending selfishness
I would sue both the Hospital and The Inconsiderate couple both maybe next time she can stay home and have her baby in a private place instead of taking over a public one and being an A$^Hole.
As a mother this wouldn't have worked for me they would have had to hurt me then all hell would have broken lose. They seem to be lucky that that father was alot nicer then they are.
Sue? Seriously? Sue Beyoncé and JayZ? Sue the hospital? Wow honey - no hospital bill isn't that just grand. SUE THE BASTARDS - MAKE THEM PAY!!!
Deep pockets – lascivious legal action and waste of the courts time. Shame on people who would think in this vein – “money for nothing and the drinks are free” comes to mind.
Seriously? Seriously?? Wow - scraping the barrel.
I in my heart of hearts hope they get sued for everything they own, then see if their thugs will stand in line at the free food bank and clear the way for them.
I mean if they didn't want to deal with all the Riff Raff maybe she should not have gone to a public hospital.
Why do I care about a stranger having a baby? It's not like it doesn't happen every minute of every day. She's just an entertainer, not a God...
I don't think any of this has been verified. Maybe the father that couldn't get into the NIC unit assumed that it was because of Beyonce's birth. I had two children in the NIC unit and there were times that we couldn't enter because of the situation with other preemie babies. Until these accusations are substantiated with facts... I would take it with a grain of salt.
ABSOLUTELY!
they do need to apologize.
Their personal selfishness to protect and make their own moment special dismissed all other newborn parents and extended family members to enjoy their special
moments. Covering security cameras, lying to new parents by telling them they cannot go into see their babies in the intensive care unit because of a hazardous leak? Common…huge cover-up here, and yes very hazardous to the Carters and the hospital. Not to mention they put everyone else at risk to protect their own.
Remember these were personal security body guards hired by the Carters not the
hospital. Though the hospital should be investigated and fined to allow it. If
the Carters gave the hospital 1.3 mill to renovate and secure her room only,
we would not be having this discussion. The Carters could still have had their PR team leek their lavish birthing experience and luxury room (because we all know the celebrities and rich like to gloat and outdo each other). At least the innocent would not have lost their own special memories that CAN NEVER BE RECREATED, right?
But we all know how this goes…the celebrities and rich will never care about the really, maybe they will have a small PR stunt to try and change their rep, but forever in my eyes they are scared! Listening to Koda and Kathie lee praise them and say “that is their first child and they are just experiencing it”, wake-up ladies…they were not the only ones experiencing it. Many others were too, not to mention the poor
parents of the babies in intensive care that were kept from the comfort of their mothers/fathers touch because of this selfishness.
There is a small resolution, if Beyoncé and Jay-Z are so private (which we know they are not, because they leaked the cost of the room, not the hospital due to HIPAA Privacy Act.) The carters should never release a picture of their baby or have a
family photo on the cover of any magazine. Instead they should coordinate a picture to be taken of all the babies in her unit and the NICU unit with their families on the cover of the magazines. Now that is news worth! Not Beyoncé, Jay-Z, or Baby Blue….
And a word to the Jay-z and Beyoncé…you are not the only
parents who struggle to have a baby or who have mis-carried…a child is a gift
from God and apparently you forgot that, because God teaches us to give away
our riches and harbor and hide them.
If I hear a song of theirs come on the radio, I will turn it
off. If I see them in a magazine, I will
not buy it. If I see them on TV or in a
movie, I will change the channel! All
others should follow and not condone this kind of behavior.
And I am sure they will be just fine with your boycott.

The funniest part to me is that she gave birth by SCHEDULED c-section. Its not even like she was in a birthing room going through labor for hours on end. In addition to the people who couldn't get in to see newborns & relatives, what about the women who went into LABOR in the area and couldn't go to their own/closest hospital because Miss Beyonce roped all the rooms off? I always thought she was pretty down to earth but this takes the cake of any prima-donna celebrity behavior I've seen. This is up there with Whitney Houston's antics.
P.S. You named your baby "Blue"? Ok. We get it. You're a celebrity and you want everyone to know who your kid is. Well mission accomplished. Your daughter sure is going to be getting way more attention than everyone else -- as she's being made fun of by all the other kids for having such a ridiculous name.
More women schedule C-Sections in the US than any other country in the world - is epidemic. And what about those women who went into Labor - rooms roped off - where do you get this info?
As far as the child's name? Guess you haven't met Frank Zappa's now grown child - 'MoonUnit. How about Martin and Paltrow's 'Apple' - the list goes on and on. Why not stop the name bullying and wish the family and child well?
You must have some deep seeded anger in your life to attack them over the name of their child. If the hospital thought this was going to be an issue, than the hospital could have said "no". But most likely this hospital is under-funded like all others and welcomed the boost to their bottom line.
Beyonce and Jay-Z, congratulations on the birth of your Baby Girl.
To Baby Blue:
I pray you enough sun to keep your attitude bright no matter how gray the day may appear
I pray you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive and everlasting
I pray you enough pain that even the smallest joys in life may appear bigger
I pray you enough hello's to get you through the final good-bye
I pray you enough..
