Duggars talk about their miscarriage, next pregnancy

Despite the pain of her recent miscarriage, TLC reality-show star and mother of 19 Michelle Duggar says she'd like to have more children if she's able. "We would be open to more if God saw fit to bless us with more," Michelle said in a green-room interview with TODAY Moms. Even given her recent loss, she said, she's not ruling out more pregnancies: "I would do it again."

Whatever you think of the Duggars, TODAY Moms' hearts went out to Michelle Duggar when she announced that she had suffered a miscarriage at 19 weeks with her 20th child.

As one mom wrote on our Facebook page: "How terrible. No matter HOW MANY children you have, it is still a loss."

Related: What to say, and what NOT to say, to someone who's had a miscarriage

Michelle and Jim Bob spoke to Ann Curry on TODAY Tuesday, their first public appearance since the miscarriage in early December.

"It's devastating, and many others have experienced very similar situations," Michelle said. "Probably the hardest part is that when a loss like this occurs people really don't know what to say.... We realize our sweet little Jubliee is with the Lord, and we will see her again someday."

And if another child isn't in the cards, the Duggars say they're enjoying being grandparents. Their oldest son, Josh, has two children with his wife Anna.

"We have heard so many things about being a grandparent and now we know why it is so great," Michelle told Ann Curry. "You get the joy of playing and spending time with them but you don't have all the responsibility."

Their grief over the loss of the baby they later named Jubilee Shalom will be on display in their reality show this season. A preview clip provided to TODAY by TLC shows Michelle and Jim Bob in the doctor's office for what they thought would be a routine ultrasound. Instead, they found out the baby's heartbeat had stopped. Michelle is crying and cradling her belly with her hands, while Jim Bob sits next to her with a look of shock on his face. "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away," she prays between sobs. "Blessed be the name of the Lord." Jim Bob prays with her, then says softly, "Michelle, I'm so sorry."

Michelle had also suffered a miscarriage during her second pregnancy. That first miscarriage was what caused Michelle and Jim Bob early in their marriage to rethink their plan to have two or three children, and instead to eschew family planning and leave the number of children they have up to God.

Between 20 to 30 percent of all pregnancies end in miscarriage. Dr. Rebecca Brightman, an OB-GYN at Mount Sinai hospital in New York, told TODAY in an earlier interview that having a lot of children doesn't increase the risk of miscarriage, but that Michelle Duggar was at increased risk because of her age -- she is 45, and women over 40 are more likely to have babies with chromosomal abnormalities, which is a leading factor in miscarriage.

Sneak Peak: Duggar dad has hands full in season premiere of "19 Kids and Counting"

The Duggars star in the TLC reality show, "19 Kids and Counting," which chronicles life at their Arkansas home with their children: Joshua, Jana, John-David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, Josiah, Joy-Anna, Jedidiah, Jeremiah, Jason, James, Justin, Jackson, Johannah, Jennifer, Jordyn-Grace and Josie. The show airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on TLC.

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar, parents of 19, announced in December that they had suffered a miscarriage with their 20th child, who would have been due in April.

Does anyone consider by having this many kids, the parents are in fact, leaving raising of the kids to the older kids. When you have too many kids for you to be the parent 95% of the time then you are having too many kids.

the older kids get robbed of their childhoods because they have to raise the younger ones. We continue to watch this because the Duggars have become a baby factory. I'll concede that they are a family unit, but the parents don't take into account all their children when making these decsions. They are being selfish, would love to see how all these kids can go to college.

I have a larger family, and the older kids are now on their own. They LOVED being a part of a large family and would love to follow suit, were they fiscally capable of doing so. We were blessed to be do-it-yourselfers, and we were able to make do with much less than on which most people would survive.

The Duggars have placed themselves in the public eye to show to others that families come in all shapes and sizes, and the size, alone, does not determine success or failure. Their family is loving, careful, conservative, caring, and very connected. I would call it one of the more successful families I've seen. Judge if you will, but they are not living on the public dollar. They have made a choice to follow their religion, and for the love of God, I'm going to say they are doing it THEIR WAY.

Try looking up the Occult the Duggars are in. It's called ATIA or Advanced Training Institute of America. Bill Gothard started this program. He is a narcissists person, there are child labor laws broken all the time, abuse is rampart, they don't encourage you to go to college, it's pianistic by ATIA's standards, and women are treated like dogs. Why do I call it an occult and how do I have this knowledge? My family was once in it. If you went behind the scenes on this show you would find them totally different people. They will force their beliefs down your throat and if you disagree, you would be wrong. I cringe when I see them on commercials or as I flip channels.

Another example of mentally ill people using religion to justify something common sense tells us is wrong. These people are selfish attention whores. But,I guess when you have 15 built in babysitters, you don't have to worry about who actually has to change the diapers. You people who see these jerks as heroes,or some kind of pro life prophets REALLY need to get a life.My wife and I have raised 5 to adulthood, and that was nearly too many to give them the attention they needed without making the older ones raise the younger for us,we didn't have more because that would have been SELFISH.

No WoodieRay, they've placed themselves in the media because they are a traveling circus act. Do you know of anyone who rushes to a talk show just to announce they are pregnant, or in this case, inform the public that they are trying? There are large families everywhere, but this particular one is media whores. Excuse me, the PARENTS are media whores. Does the Today show have some sort of freaky pregnancy contract with them, and make them check in quarterly for a pregnancy test?

I agree with Adam. Do these kids have to make an appointment for one-on-one time with Mom or Dad? And, as the oldest in a family of "only" seven kids, I was a second Mommy from the age of nine. In later years, one neighbor told me the whole neighborhood marveled that they only saw me outside the house when I was looking after a younger sibling or hanging laundry out to dry, because Mom was busy 24/7 and dear old Dad was no help. Kids deserve a childhood free of the crushing responsibility of constantly caring for little brothers and sisters.
God gave us FREE will. What we do with it is our own decision, and what these people are doing is, I believe, not God's will, but desire for attention. Irresponsible at best…

This woman is an attention addict, and is that different from any other addiction which people demonize. The only thing they really care about is the ratings their show receives. When the last kid was in the hospital struggling to live she didn't say enough is enough! My child is dying get these cameras out of my business. I disagree with their decision to have more babies especially at their age, but from what I can see, those children are extremely lucky to have those two as parents. There is a whole lot of love in that family.

This is a family that still sits down to dinner with all the kids much in the same way the Kennedys chronicled their life. I loved that about the Kennedys. As I recall the late RFK and his wife Ethel had 11 children and probably would have had more had Robert lived. Actually JFK waned many children but unfortunately Jackie had several miscarriages as I recall.

Haters? It is too bad the passion you have to hate this family can't be used for good. I feel sorry for you.

Denise - These kids are home schooled. After all, Mommy and Daddy don't want them to learn that there is a whole different world out there. Someone might revolt, jump ship, and actually have a life. The oldest son is already following in Daddy's footsteps. He hasn't been married that long and already has two kids. His wife appears to be a little wimp who can't think on her own. Freedom Rock's is right. The women are considered second class citizens, nothing more than baby factories.

I stopped watching Today after it became apparent that the show caters to these idiots. I don't understand why NBC promotes them. The show is not on their network and most people in this country are disgusted by these parents.

It's so funny how you liberals demand that others accept your lifestyle, yet you simply cannot tolerate others that would live differently. These people are breaking no laws, pay taxes and not hurting anyone. The vitriol this morning is just over the top.

What you haters fail to grasp is that the Duggars are financially successful people and their children are a burden to no one. Put them in the 53% that support the bottom 47% that don't pay federal taxes.

I believe Mr. Duggar has some sort of real estate business and of course they get a few bucks from the tv show.

Every kid they have is a potential productive citizen and taxpayer and job creator.

Attention seeing behavior is very common in women who are emotionally immature. Emotionally immature people often experience low self esteem and low self confidence and consequently feels insecure. This causes them to spend a large amount of time creating situations in which they are the center of attention. By being the center of attention they allieviate feelings of insecurity and inadequacy but only temporarily as the underlying cause of these feelings remains. This causes the attention seeker to create a new situation in which she is the center of attention. I believe that Michele Dugger is one of these people. The type of Christianity they practice is not very empowering to women. The best hope they have for their daughters is that they will marry good men and stay home to raise their own babies. She has no higher education, she married when she was very young. She really has nothing of her own to be proud of except for her children. I almost see her repeated pregnancies as a form of Munchausen Syndrome where the person inflicts a disease onto themselves in order to get sympathy from others. Only in her case instead of disease, she gets herself pregnant. She has become addicted to the attention of being a pregnant and being a new mom. I only have one child and I can see how that would become addicting, people dote on you when you're expecting. You receive congratualtions and are told to put your feet up. When the baby first arrives, everyone offers to help. They take the baby so you can rest and ooh and ahh over her. They sympathize with your aches and pains and listen to your birth stories and praise your child's beauty and your mothering skills. But when the baby ages that starts to subside. A big tip off that this is all for attention is how much of her pain over the premie she had a couple of years ago and this recent miscarriage has been put out there by them for public eyes. I do not think it is normal for them to publish photos of the miscarried fetus online. I don't think it's normal to broadcast the moment they find out their baby has no heartbeat. These are personal moments, not something that should be shared with the public. I've lost three pregnancies myself and the hardest thing about them was telling the few close friends and relatives that thepregnancy had ended. After the first one I didnt want to tell anyone when I was pregnant again because it sucked so much having to relive it over and over each time I had to tell someone else. WHY would she want to put that on TV?

#1.34 - Tue Feb 14, 2012 12:35 PM EST

I don't think she deserved the pain of a miscarriage and it is a good thing that they raise their kids without government funding.

That being said....

It is really sick to continue to continue to try and have children after what happened with their last baby and all the trauma they went through. In addition it is grossly unfair to the older kids who instead of getting adequate mom and dad time have to parent their younger siblings.

Don't get me wrong, expecting your children to help out, especially with younger siblings, is a good thing but when it's to the point of robbing them of their childhood, it is selfish and unfair. Life isn't fair but when you make deliberate decisions leading to unfair situations, that is wrong.

Also, the expectations on the women in particular sickens me. It is just a way to control women and make them live in servitude. Does anybody else find it creepy and gross that all the girls perm their hair at home because the father Jim likes curly hair? I don't know about anyone else but I never chose clothing or hairstyles because that's what my dad liked. ewwwwww

Xina:

I agree with much of what you have said, except for the lower education level (no college), and the aspect of their Christianity.

Mrs. Duggar is not the only one to blame for this kind of "Addiction to having Babies". Remember it takes a man, his consent and unrelenting sexual drive. Something is not thinking with her husband. Everyone knows the old saying---

You would think her husband would tell her, "Enough already". No matter how much money this man claims to have, it will not be enough to raise them.

It has been estimated by studies that each child takes a minimum of $250,000 to raise. That is a low estimate, if children are brought up with monetary privileges from parents who are very wealthy; then it is much more..

I do not think this is the case here.

Xina: I think maybe one point that you were missing in your explanation (very well done by the way), in addition to the other points, is that the intense love and joy experienced by the mother with the birth of a child contributes as a source for a feeling of worth. For someone with low self esteem/confidence as you described, it temporarily satisfies the need to feel important or special in some way, on a more personal level, and once that fades it seems she would be desperate to have that back. I don't think it would just be on the more superficial level of being doted on while pregnant, or even right after the baby is born since focus usually shifts to the newborn instead of the mother. But I still absolutely agree with you about everything that you said!

When this show first came out I remember reading that they said - the parents - that the reason they realized they had their first miscarriage was because it "was God's doing.. meaning he was pissed that they had used birth control". Weird, but ok. So, now with this recent one that happened, and I am sorry about that, I had one myself and it's not fun, where does God come in and being pissed about what this time?

They didn't even mention this first bit of info in the story, of course, but I wonder what Michelle is thinking why it happened again if they're following their God and doing what he wants. Why would he do this to her again? If the first time was because they didn't use birth control, what's to be angry with now?

Curious question.

Of course the Duggars have to continue trying to have more kids. The show is called "19 Kids and Counting". They started with "17 Kids and Counting". It is time to add another! (scarcasm) They should just stop having babies and start to enjoy the grandchildren. Oh wait, that means the attention is then on their older children and not them.

The Duggars have friends that also have somewhere around this number of children. I just read that they may be getting their own show. Maybe the Duggars are desperate to stay on the air (just like Kate and her litter of children).

Debbie, they receive NO public assistance. The parents invested in and own several properties that generate income. They shop at thrift stores; they shop at the bulk grocery stores. They cook at home and don't waste money on eating out. They save money and very regularly give not just time but material things and food to those in need.

I would not have that many children, but it's not my decision. It's also not the decision of any of your judgemental, mean people. It's too bad we don't have more families with the love, respect and caring that is shown in the Dugger family. Probably some of you criticizing didn't have those factors in your life and that's why it's so easy for you to hate.

I do not believe as they do..... I believe children are a blessing AND a responsibility. It is irresponsible to have that many kids, that close together; the older ones end up raising the younger ones. They are children, teaching them to be responsible is good; forcing them into adult roles is laziness, while Mommy plays teacher, they are not domestic servants. Now that they are older, they need to stop; their children should not have to be saddled with taking care of special needs siblings also.

I quit watching the show a long time ago because of the way they treated their children.

At least she acknowledged her grandkids this time! Of course, Ann brought it up, but at least she said she likes them! I thought it was always wierd how she just acts like they don't exist because all she thinks about is when will she get preggars again! They will probably be pregnant again in a few months if they aren't already! I think it's really sad. How can they make a child suffer like Josie had to because Michelle is to old to keep having children, her body is "over" it. I think it's selfish.

Catnip - I do blame Jim Bob for his part in this, but for him I believe he does it as a way to oppress the wife, he keeps his woman "barefoot and pregnant" as a means of control. In that he holds a great deal of blame. I suppose that I feel like she "gets herself pregnant" because there are many ways a woman can control how many children she has. Natural Family planning, while certainly not perfect, can be about 80% effective when followed correctly. Unless JB is raping the woman behind the scenes, there is no reason why she can't tell her husband she has a headache or is too exhausted to make love during her most fertile time. There's only a window of maybe 3-5 days you can get pregnant. Personally, I believe she knows exactly when she is fertile and using that knowledge to help promote pregnancies. 19 kids by accident? I don't think so.

Dirt:

No logic--the commentors here are not mean. They realize the responsibility of having 19 children.

If parents are really being good parents, they would have less children, and give more quality attention to those, by giving them further education, get them involved with others outside their family making different cultured friends. Children should be able to be just being children when growing up, without having the responsibility of being a parent to their many siblings.

Sometimes, "mistakes" happen. In that case, it is not a marathon to see who can have the most kids. The Duggars have done their job. Now it is time to find another one, outside of the sleepovers in the house.-

Okay, first of all I don't watch the show because I despise all reality shows. But the various channels that do air them make a huge amount of money with them because it costs very little to produce and the only reason they do continue to make/film these shows is because people watch.

I just don't understand why people watch. After I saw a Mom and her daughter that had been killed in a traffic accident, (it was a two lane road and had just happened, no way to not see it) I will never, ever slow down to gawk at one. It was a horrible sight as they had hit a gravel truck and this was back in '81. Cars weren't exactly built with many safety features.

Just how many of you would turn down a chance to make money if you were able to be on these shows? I bet not very many. I don't even like my picture taken so I definitely pass, thousands of dollars or no. Also no one knows if the older children are unhappy or feel like they've missed out on their childhood, so it's not very fair to make assumptions about them based on your own experiences.

Besides up until the early 20th century or so older children did help look after the younger ones, although I can't say if it created a stronger bond among the siblings since my parents had only 2 kids. I do know that my Mom who came from a family of 4 kids, is very close with my uncle who's the youngest, as she defended him from their twin brothers.

20 kids? Yeah a lot but it seems to work for them. Attention whores? I don't know as I don't know them personally. But I'm pretty sure their contracts they signed say they have to appear on talk shows if asked. At least we have many channels to watch. Yeah for cable and satellite!

Personally I do feel Michelle should stop having anymore children just because of her age and it's starting to get dangerous health wise for her.

What can a person add to this conversation? I totally agree with most postings, what can they possibly be thinking? How else can a completely mundane family with no other claim to fame get this much attention other by the mother being a brood mare for all these children. I don't care how they manage to feed, clothe or educate them, it's too many kids and they are a drain on our society. We pay for their upkeep by virtue of the tax deductions they get. I'll bet they pay zero taxes and get Earned Income Credit to boot. I've never watched their show and never will. When they are on the Today Show, I turn it off. I've written to the show and expressed my displeasure but somewhere out there are wingnuts who like to watch this crap. I hope he becomes impotent and her womb dries up.

After reading their website and watching a couple of specials about them a few years ago, I can honestly say I believe these people are parasites who are causing a lot of harm to their children. What led me to believe this? A few things:

  • The couple has had their home declared a "church" so that they do not have to pay any taxes on the house or upkeep of it.
  • Their "financial security" wasn't nearly enough to build their house - that was done thanks to the tv show.
  • All of the younger children are assigned a "buddy" in the form of an older child. This buddy is responsible for the entire care of the younger child, from making sure they get dressed and brush teeth to overseeing their lessons.
  • Michelle once stated that the entire clan can go out to eat, and she and Jim Bob are able to sit at a table alone and enjoy the meal while the kids take care of each other.
  • The girls are taught there is no "greater glory to god" than to grow up, marry and have lots of babies. That's fine if that's what someone wants to do - more power to them! But these girls aren't given much of choice in options. College is never considered.

This is just a smattering of what I find wrong with these people. I have nothing against large families as long as the parents are able to give the necessary attention to each child. Obviously that doesn't happen here, and I think it's beyond irresponsible to keep bringing more children into that cult of a family. I will say though, that the genetics between Michelle and Jim Bob are obviously good - with that many children anything lurking would've shown up, but I don't recall even seeing any of the kids wear glasses!

I thought these people were crazy too, and actually watched the show to prove to myself what whackjobs they were....I was surprised to see that they are actually loving, sweet, responsible and, I think, wonderful parents, who just happen to have a life philosophy that I don't agree with. The women are not treated "like dogs" . I was impressed with Jim Bob, he is more considerate, loving and respectful of Michelle than any husband I've seen on any show (fictional or reality) or in real life.

Yes, I think they're a little silly at this point to not use birth control but it's their life and their choice.

I skimmed through all the hateful comments that people are hurling toward others they barely know and I'm thinking, "Wait, who are the crazy ones?"

I absolutly do not see why these people are in the media limelight as some sort of "idyllic" bunch. However, the above comments nearly universally state what everyone is actually perceiving and feeling. There is no way in the world those children could be receiving the individualized parenting that they deserve. Neither do I believe the picture perfect images that are constantly presented of the entire group in mechanized harmony. I've never seen one argument or upset. I simply cannot believe that to be a fact. Its a false image to present to people as some sort of ideal role models. I do however see older CHILDREN taking care of many of the younger childrens needs and keeping the younger ones organized. The inside of their laundry room looks like an institution and not a home. If the cameras would just turn off the lights they could go back to tending to the children they have already created and stop giving interviews to the media. Not interested except for the fact that they just seem to be reinforcing the fact that they are off kilter

I would not be suprised at all if she has another miscarriage soon. I also would not be suprised if she will take steps to take something to strengthen her chances of carrying a child to term. I bet she has consulted a doctor already about it. The Bates family who also have 19 kids and are their supposed friends (but also their rivals in the baby making machine thing they have going on!) that mother Kelly Bates takes something to strengthen her uterus wall now because she had had 3 miscarriages previous to her 19th child being born. Soooo, I think Kelly will probably have 20 or more children and Michelle is not even going to let her pass her up! So I think the competition is on and MIcelle will take drugs to help herself to carry a baby to term. I don't think she will be successful, I don't think her body will be able to carry another child unless she stays in bed the entire time perhaps which she may very well attempt to do to beat out Kelly BAtes.

Jim Bob and Michelle are misguided!

The couple is abusing the gift of having children.

Jim Bob and Michelle have parlayed the gift of having children into a 21 and counting circus. They have become ensared by a forever evolving Television Saga. This couple is not taking into consideration the mental and physical well being of their living children.

Surely, 2 parents cannot raise 19 children.

Michelle and Jim Bob are forcing the older children to become the "parents" of the younger children. They are also coercing all of their born children to become surrogate parents of all of the unborn children that, only by a miracle, this couple will continue to bring into this world.

The Duggers will only be stopped by the worse events: if Michelle becomes infertile or dies in this endless process of giving childbirth. Then, at least 19 children will become orphans.

As a christian, I definitely respect their beliefs.

However, Jim Bob and Michelle have lopped off 1 important chapter in the bible - Proverbs - the biblical book on wisdom.

Xina, I agree that "forcing" a woman to have baby after baby is a form of oppression. Fundamentalist churches usually teach that a "wife must submit to her husband" so as a fundamentalist, she can't say NO even if her husband's unbridled lust results in dead children and possibly her own death. Ooooh! What if she dies and he marries again? A younger woman.... OMG .....

    Teri,

The reason that people are reading this story is because the Duggers are insanely committed to reproducing babies...until Michelle either becomes infertile or dies in the process of child birth.

The Duggers' decision to endlessly try to bring children into their family and this world is highly irresponsible and insane.

Religious cults are pressuring breeder cows like Michelle Duggar to keep at it so that they can sway the right wing vote and get more federal money (welfare) for the churches. Then, they complain about people who are on straight government welfare.

Michelle and JimBob Duggar have already cost the state of Arkansas hundreds of thousands for preemie care. Not to mention healthcare for 18 other kids. They pay absolutely nothing for their healthcare. Nor do they pay taxes, having declared themselves a church.

They will not stop until they have a retarded or deformed child like Sarah Palin. That is how badly they want to continue their failure chain. That is how badly the right wing wants to outnumber the left.

My daughter's ex-friend tried to be a Michelle Duggar breeder cow. She just gave birth to her fourth child two months early because of gestational diabetes. God knows what it cost their insurance. They get by on WalMart crap food. The next baby will probably kill her.

This is the sick and desperate right wing agenda. America, the stupid are taking over.

We better change the tax codes to stop rewarding this type of behavior before we end up like China. Having one or two kids is fine. Any more in this day and age is out of line.

Xina and Marinmom and Ronster.................thank you for your sound insight and perspective. There are 7 billion people on this earth. We all know what that means as the population increases.....more pollution, more competition for resources, energy costs rise, food comes from industrial farming which means cows (our food source) on filthy feed lots being injected with antibiotics as they stand in 2 feet of their own feces and chickens crammed in filthy cages causing salmonella outbreaks. Just think of India and China....polluted air, water, cheap labor. Yet, conservative nuts like Rick Santorum think we need more people and they are against birth control, it's just so depressing to think these people just can't figure it out and see the big picture.

I remember as I was growing up there was a family of 9 children in the area. We all went to the same school. The oldest were taking care of the youngest. The oldest didn't amount to anything, because they were so tired for taking care of their siblings that they were often asleep in class and unable to keep up, to do their homework because they were helping the young ones to do their homework ! The youngest went all to universities while the oldest were unable to do so because of poor grades. You cannot take care of children while you are a child yourself and go for higher education after.

To put her body and their souls through this again, may also be an abomination. How many pregnancies and potential children will they abuse by conceiving time after time only to enter high-risk realms and chronic miscarriages?

Of course, they can have more kids! I my county alone there are close to 200 kids waiting for homes like theirs! New adventures await for this family, if they wish to truly tell us that children are a gift from the Lord. Adoption time!!!!!!!

This isn't a matter of choosing life. What the Duggars are doing is sickening. They whore their brood for money. Nevermind the fact that they are being highly irresponsible.

Michelle is in her forties and anyone who is remotely knowledgeable about human biology knows that women have significant dificulties with childbirth at this point in their lives. But because she and her husband are religious crazies, they put THAT before getting educated. So, in my opinion, she is choosing endangerment of her own life and that of her unborn child. Michelle needs to stick a cork in her vajayjay already!

Also, as a previous poster wrote, the older children are robbed of their OWN childhoods because they end up caring for their younger siblings. Did The Lord plan for that, too? No, I doubt it. Adoption is a labor of love, maybe more so, than giving birth.

I have never commented on an internet wall before until now. I feel many internet
spaces are like bathroom walls-involving intolerant and nefarious language.

Having said this, the Duggars have inspired me to take to this forum to express my
strongest disdain for this family and ideology of religious rationalization of avoiding
birth control. As previously discussed, the world is currently entrenched in a
over-population crisis in which hundreds of millions of living HUMAN BEINGS die
because of lack of clean water and food. We are destroying the planet because
we have reached population capacity. This woman who has already had 18 children,
wants more? I found this to be unconscionably selfish and boundlessly insane.

The United States of America will suffer because of people like this and the rationalization
of false superiority that we have brainwashed our society into thinking we are rightfully
entitled to. I believe in the conspiracy of love and I do not think this family
has anything to do with the promotion of life and prosperity. They are as selfish
as the next reality TV star and hide behind their 19 children and “Jesus” to justify
    their actions.

They are sickening people using procreation to make money! How would they be supporting these kids without this show? What are they going to do when people finally wise up and stop watching the idiotic, boring show? Those kids are getting cheated out of individual attention and love because of the number of children they have! It's not fair, and it is definately not fair for the older children to have to be built in babysitters!!! The show is just nauseating and so are the parents!!!!! It was suggested that anyone who feels compelled to remain in a constant state of pregnancy and who can't be happy and satisfied with 19 children and still feels the need to "child hoard" if you will, must have some sort of mental illness, as all hoarders do.

Pregnancy isn't an illness. Having repeat pregnancies when you know you're risking your life and the child's just might be a mental illness. Having lots of kids when you are able to care for them is great, but please stop before the mom dies. They could adopt more, or just spend more time with the ones they already have.

Texas pam - while I don't have or agree with your religious convictions, you are 100% correct regarding adoption. Who are these parents to think that it's only their offspring who are worthy of populating this planet? If they think children are a gift from God, then why don't they adopt the ones who are already here and need homes? If they truly love children, why do they continue to get pregnant when she is obviously at the end of her child bearing years? That last baby who was born prematurely and was in the hospital for such a long period of time had to have been suffering. Who would wish that upon a child?

The absurdity of this article is in the presentation of the 4 advertisements; one Charmin toilet paper kartooon bear below each of four videos:

    1) Michelle Duggar, and a happy perky blue bear, pimping his toilet paper.

    2) Michelle and her man, "Jim Bob" (hahaha! name), and a blue kartuun bear, reminding them they are in need of more Charamine T.P.

    3) TWENTY-ONE LIVING MEMBERS of the Duggar Family in this ever-so-tiny video frame, and the ubiquitous blue toilet paper bear, buzzing the meme, "you NEED more Charminia T.P. The Hint: Duggars! Lotsa butts -- lotsa TP.

    4) A pretty looking Michelle with "Jim Bob" just off to the side, and just below... the blue Charamyn TP cartoon bear. The blue bear seems to be whispering into Jim Bob's ear: "give that woman's uterus a rest, big boy!"

I would enjoy the TV show, narrated by the voice of Guy Smilie of Sesame Street fame.

I must say... Charmin toilet paper is really good quality T.P.

This is not about abortion, it's about common sense. At her age it is very difficult to become pregnant, so it would not be out of the realm of reality that they are actively trying to become pregnant. It is also much harder to keep it (miscarriage), so I would say she's pushing the limits at this point. Common sense.

Having kids does not make you a celebrity. The human race is the only species I know of that is allowed to breed beyond its resources. As a matter of fact overbreeding of humans is wreaking havac on other mammals.

Yep, we've given up. TODAY's producers have no common sense. Duggars are news in the same way as "dad shoots daughter's computer" is news. We celebrate morons and fools and then wonder why American's get dumber and dumber.

Duggars scheduled . . we turn to CBS. Nice news programming today, and no pandering to the most irresponsible family in America.

Oh yeah...great parent. Why not be a REAL parent and have some DISCIPLINE instead of a show of violence to intimidate? How about...TAKING AWAY THE COMPUTER instead? See, that's REAL parenting. Not taking out a gun and brandishing it around and threatening and shooting stuff up. THAT is a whacko.

leo9lady...I agree with you as far as the gun is concerned, Yet parenting today needs you to have a lawyer 24-7 to respond to Child welfare on how to raise your child......Children today are way out of hand and it takes real parenting...My mother was home to intercept phone calls and letters from school officals, attended pta meetings meet with teachers and consulted my Father when I got real stupid, because at that point I was in deep SH$$....Stealing, disrespect, and outragous behavior was monitored and corrected by uncles, aunts and Grand parents....Where are the families today? People today donot realize that once children are born you can't wake up one morning and say"OK the marriage is off" and "share" custody of the children and expect no problems...or walk around with children being subjected to love less marriages...Women deciding not to need a father to raise the child and father's leaving the child fatherless....There are so many reasons the kids today are off the hook, but Family is the biggest reason for our problems...They are dying....Family to watch out for the young ones and "Police" the older ones..No time to go to school ( My mother would sneak up to school and observe me through the classroom window)....Yes he should have just quietly taken the computer, ohone, TV, Acess to all the non essential things he pays for...

I can appreciate how that father felt, but not use of a gun! He lost his temper, used violence that could have missed the computer & killed his daughter. Computers & cell phones are easily taken from a child/teen and rendered useless technically - all without violence. Parenting is, after all, teaching by example!

who cares i would have shot that stupid laptop as well, but for showmanship i would have used a 7mm deep cavity hollow-point filled and sealed with oil from 500 yards or a 12ga rifled sabot from 100 yards just to watch it explode. no he didn't loose his temper, he simply removed the problem and as for that comment about shooting his daughter not likely as she wasn't down range. there's nothing wrong with destroying stuff with a gun(even if it's for punishment) just remember to pick up your mess when your done and follow the gun safety commandments and common sense. yes i saw the video it was amusing and i didn't see any dangerous mistakes.

      Momhugs -

Have you watched the video of the dad shooting the computer? Obviously not. He's out in the middle of a field with her laptop. He reads what she wrote on Facebook that angered him. He then explained his position and why he was going to do what he was going to do. THEN shot the laptop that was lying on the ground.

It wasn't like he walked into his daughter's room while she was sitting at the computer and shot it.

Granted, I felt it was rather foolish and had I been in his shoes, I would've video taped myself selling the laptop, rather than shooting it. I think he was going for dramatic effect, but I still feel it was a waste of money.

Regardless, next time, try knowing about the situation BEFORE commenting.

      Cheers!

I thought the Dad shooting the laptop was strange because: Shooting thing's isn't exactly the best example for any child on Earth. You destroyed something that you might have paid for( I'm not to sure if he paid for it) And instead of destroying it you could've sold it, or donated it to charity. But if shooting a laptop you most likely bought appeals to you sure.

leolady, what a good idea! What a relief it would be to see a show about real people who have adopted children, especially older children who often get overlooked in favor of babies. A limited program where one family might be featured for one or two programs... not on television for life... and where the parents realize that a small family is best for the children and is the environmentally responsible way to live.

leo9lady, I believe that PBS did a story about such a family long before the Duggars came onto the scene. They adopted children that no one else wanted (handicapped, older). Unfortunately, they divorced a couple of years after that. However, I would appreciate another program about such families more than the Duggars.

@horsecorgi, I think the Duggars made a big deal over the miscarriage so they can promote their cults' non-abortion stance. Every chance a religious nutjob gets, they will put on a big display to show us a dead fetus.

The religious right is trying so hard to outbreed everyone that they will end up with a bunch of chromosomally defective children. Then they will scream at the government to pay for them while they call the government socialist. This is the insane right wing agenda.

What the Duggars do is not anyones business but their own! People on here are saying how disgusting and irresponsible they are. How are the disgusting or irresponsible? They do not depend on any welfare. They take care of their own and the children are happy and healthy. While having such a large family is not for everyone, it is THEIR business! Linda, large families were normal because for one, women got started having babies earlier because people didn't live that long. Second, most people lived on farms and needed the help. Neither of these are concerns anymore. I'm not against large families, but they are on TV sharing all their business and Michelle isn't young anymore. No matter what Hollywood tries to say, having babies when mom is over 40 can be very dangerous for her and the baby.

It's not fair to use the older children as built in baby sitters. How much quality time do you think each kid gets? How special does each kid feel, while being lost in the shuffle? I'd like to hear from the older kids, once they move out. I bet they move far enough to have their own lives.

It sure is other peoples business. You so not on welfare? Really who helps pay for people who have too many (more than two in my opinion) kids health care, schooling and such. They are not helping this nation, this world by bringing child after child into it. I agree that if you want more than two you should adopt children that are already here, already hungry for a family.

I worry about the dumming down of the family.

How many were in your family, Star? It appears you don't have to have 18 siblings to start lessening the intelligence.

I am one of six children to which my parents gave birth and adopted/fostered an additional five. Yes, the older helped out with the younger and no one felt abused or abandoned. We were part of a large, loving family. I only had two children, but the older child helped with the younger child. It doesn't hurt children to help the family; it teaches them responsibility and how a family functions. A dysfunctional family is one where the children are not given responsibilities and are allowed to sit on their duffs and be treated like royalty.

I don't agree with the Duggars life choices. Yes, every child is a blessing, but God gives us a brain with which to reason. Mrs Duggars' body is rebelling against the nonstop pregnancies.

Sure it was noone's business..........until they decided they wanted to put their life on tv & go to the media everytime they are going to have another child. Also for everyone is getting upset because people are choosing to voice their opinions on not liking the duggers, it's just that, them voicing their OPINIONS!! It's your opinion to go ahead & think the duggers are such a "great" family, & are wonderful for having so many children, and its others opinion to believe what they are doing isn't so wonderful. Everyone has a right to comment on this, just because it may not be the same point of view as yours doesn't mean they have to "shut up" as one person posted above. Personally, I agree with everyone who says they should stop having children, they need to spend that important quality time with all the ones they already have, & if they feel the need to have more children then why not adopt a child that needs a loving family & home. They believe god was/is blessing them with all their children, well, they lost the last one so maybe it's god's way of telling them enough is enough. I'm sure both parents felt a great amount of grief with this miscarriage, but they should also take in consideration the pain that their children possibly felt in losing a sibling they thought they would be getting. If they continue to try to have more kids & experience another miscarriage or two, then they aren't just putting themselves thru that grief all over again, they are also putting their children thru that hurt all over again as well. Again, that's just my opinion, I apologize if I happen to offend anyone who loves/likes this family. Those of you who said "you don't know this family personally so how can you dislike them", well you don't know them either so how would you know that they are as "perfect, wonderful, lovely" as you think they are?? Just a little food for thought right there. Remember: OPINIONS ARE LIKE BUTTHOLES, EVERYONE HAS ONE!!!! (But it's up to you, on how personal you want to take the opinion of a stranger.)

Quit thinking these people do not get government handouts. They do. They do not pay taxes. That is a handout. They get free healthcare. That is a handout. I'm sure they take advantage of EVERY loophole. Those are handouts. The state of Arkansas is more of a welfare state and it can not afford to pay half a million every time a Duggar pops out a preemie.

I, too, suffered not one but two miscarriages and to watch this couple exploit their "heartbreak" is sick. You can't tell me that they're not cashing in! What are they doing for Valentine's Day? A trip to New York without their "beloved" children, an appearance on the Today Show, dinner? show? spa?

What's the consolation prize for the rest of us who have experienced miscarriages? We don't get a free trip or an opportunity to hob-knob.

I could care how many kids this woman spits out but i think she is risking her own health and what if something happens to her? She will leave behind all her kids. That i think is being selfish.

Actually I think Daddy Duggars is the selfish one. He does his job in (most likely)a split second, and Momma Duggars has to risk her life and the life of a possible new creatiion. Take a good look at him, doesn't he look like a sex addicted adict. Look at her, doesn't she look as if, "she better not tell him she has a headache". How rediculous these two are. I skeve just looking at him and I really feel sorry for her. He does not have any respect for his wife or her body. He just wants everyone to look at him and say "what a man", when actually he is nothing be a RAT, and disgusting one at that.

Not to worry, MommaThea81. Mom would never be missed. The older girls would raise the younger ones. After all, they are the ones changing diapers and wiping runny noses while Mom is lying in bed during her current pregnancy.

With so many kids, the odds are that at least one of them will eventually write a "Mommy Dearest" book and tell what it is really like when the cameras are not rolling.

The little ones probably won't even notice if something happens to her. They'll just keep on going with their siblings raising them.

I don't think the father works, I think I heard he owed some storage units and rents them out and that is their income. Please correct me if I am wrong

I've been of the same thought.. I guarantee there is some heinous sh!t that goes on that the cameras are not allowed to film, and the crew are not allowed to EVER speak of.

Sooner or later, one of the kids is going to decide to make a name for his/herself and write the tell-all book or give the "exclusive" interview, and we'll see just how well-adjusted (sarc) this ridiculous family really is.

When I was researching about how the show was started, either approached or pitched, many sites said they also have a used car dealership. I still haven't found out how the show started though.

Also to be fair everyone, they had the 18 kids when the show first started. It's not like all 19 have been born since the show was first aired.

I saw a documentary on them several years ago, I don't even remember how long ago. It was called 13 kids and counting. The whole show was about them building their own home. Actually the dad was teaching the little kids how to hammer nails, and they were building the house. Geesh, I'm sure THAT's up to code. After that they made me sick, and I never watched their show. Altho, I saw them on Say Yes to the Dress. They made me sick all over again. The dad was putting the pressure on the staff to find a dress with a high neck, and long sleeves. The staff wouldn't do it!!

Jeanmarie - I'm sorry that I missed that episode of Say Yes to the Dress. What a shame that the Duggars feel the need to poke their noses into other reality shows. I guess they don't think they get enough attention through their own show. From what I've heard, they pride themselves on shopping at thrift stores, so why were they shopping for a wedding dress at a high end wedding boutique that sells dresses that cost thousands of dollars?

If I die and find out there's no God there is no loss. If you die and find there is a God - you lose.

The Duggars can do what they choose with what is theirs. I have also had a miscarriage and it is extrememly painful. Do you really think the media will let it go? They are surely on a contract whether a healthy baby arrives or the baby dies...the show must go on according to tv programming. Leave the family alone and let them make their own choices. Do you really think your comment will make them think "Oh, hey, maybe we should stop having kids."

If you don't like it, don't watch it.

What happens when you die, and He does exist! Sorry but the anti-religious factors have put common sense, decency, and respect in the gutter. If she wants 400 kids, it is their business. They are making the mistakes and they are also raising kids who are respectful and obedient. This is not a country of just atheists, it is a country that is supposed to be accepting of others. Seems like the atheists have forgotten that we are free to make our own choices good or bad. If you don't like it....change the channel. Easy solution!!

Josh, what happens when you "dieth" and find out God does exist? While I believe the Duggars are irresponsible, I agree with others. You don't have to watch the show. As for the older kids, well one of them has already had two kids, and they evidently have not moved away. Michelle says she enjoys being a grandparent. So, it doesn't look like the older kids are too anxious to get away. I also think more kids need more responsibility today anyway. It would just be so tragic if our kids had more responsibility these days, wouldn't it? I see so many kids thinking parents "owe" them this, that, and the other thing. I know of no law that requires us to "spoil our kids rotten!" Again, I don't agree with having 19 kids +, and maybe the last two pregnancies should be a sign to them that it's time to quit. Still, some of the nasty comments, with sexual jibes, on here are also irresponsible and appear to be coming from people with less education than even the Duggars possess!

Pascal's Wager only works if the options are No God or Bible God. 50 million Hindu gods tells you what's wrong with that assumption. What if you die and there is a god, but it's not the god you expect but a god that thinks Christians are the worst?

Oh, the classic fear based argument. Yeah everyone better get to church and pray because in the immensely unlikely event God does exist we wanna make sure we take time to playcate him out of fear. If the only reason you believe or practice your faith is because your afraid of what might happen if you don't your in it for the wrong reasons. But i guess we should all be hedging our bets just to be sure we don't go to "Hell". Grow up.

Ahh... Pascal's Wager... one of the weakest, yet most used, arguments for the continuation and propagation of faith.

It is as Richard Dawkins once said "We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further."

Personally, I don't know one way or the other.. If there is a god, he sure isn't doing a very good job of telling us how he wants things done. 2000 year old books read by shifty self-serving salesmen aren't the best way to make sure your expectations of mankind are being properly understood.

So, until whatever cosmic big boss there is, if he exists at all, comes down from his lofty abode, stands before me and sets me straight on things, I will continue to view all religion as a load of man-made BS.

Truthman....the burdon of proof is not on those that dispute the existence of "god". It falls squarely on the shoulders of the believer. Not being able to absolutely prove something does not exist is not the equivalent of proving something does exist. It appears you have brought a knife to a gun fight sir...read a book...anything but the bible.

If there is a God and that God just so happens to be the Christian God as opposed to the millions of other Gods that billions of other people in this world have worshiped over time, I would not imagine Him having much respect for those who would choose to worship based on "well if you believe in Him you get to go this happy place called heaven and if you don't believe in Him you just get nothing."

Pascal's Wager is childish, unintelligent, and lazy. Those who pose it are at the absolute bottom of intellectual thought and ougt to be ashamed of themselves for having such ignorant faith and lack of rational faculties.

Let's try a variation of Pascal's Wager to see how stupid it makes you look: What if one of the other millions of Gods worshipped over time is the true God and we've been mistaken! Wouldn't you rather approach death knowing that THAT God won't smite you when He's seen you've been worshipping this heathen Christian God??? You'd have better odds! About a million to one! Sounds pretty ridiculous doesn't it?

As for the Duggers, disgusting and reprehensible for pushing their beliefs on the rest of us. But we're watching it and advertisers are paying the network for it and the network is paying them to push their crazy on the rest of us. That's capitalism.

I don't want government sterilization, but I would support a limit on the number of child tax credits that a single family can claim. The Duggars make a big deal out of not receiving any government handouts, but they don't tell the other side of the story, which is that they do not pay their fair share of taxes in the first place.

They don't do drugs, they follow the law, they aren't in this for money. What makes them a criminal? That they love having kids? It is once again, their choice. Now, let's talk about those people who do have kids to take from the government? You can call the Duggars criminals once we start testing welfare recipients for drugs. Criminals, I think not.

Know who wins when we drug test welfare recipients? It's not the taxpayers. It's the drug testing companies.

The testing itself costs much, much more than what is saved by cutting off people who test positive.

I agree that we need to change the tax code to stop rewarding people who have too many children. Any more than two, you should not get any tax breaks for and you should have to pay the full price for their education.

You are wrong about the Duggars not getting any public assistance, though. They pay no taxes because they have declared their home a church. They do not pay for their healthcare, either. The state of Arkansas pays for it.

Wisest post on this string. While it's clear they love their kids and the children appear to have a great life -- huge income from public appearances and TV documentaries notwithstanding -- I, too believe it's time for the Duggars to stop having children. At some point, your body just can't do it anymore. And based on their faith, I'm surprised they'd want to risk a yet another fetal death. I believe God is saying, "enough".

Duggar, you've worn it out. You shooting damaged bullets. Your shell casing can't take the pressure. The rifling is you barrel is smooth. Your front site is broken. Your cylinder doesn't stop at the alignment cog. Putthat gun away and quit firing it.

My gosh are you right, Murph. There comes a time when you need to just stop. We were not meant to have children into our 40's - Heck, at the turn of the century, people only lived until their 40's!.

I once had a friend who continued to have baby after baby (11 total), and they had nothing!! I am talking poverty here. And her comment was always, "When God chooses to close my womb, then there will be no more." She passed away along with babies 12 & 13. (Twins) I am still angry, not at God, but at her and her husband. And now, he moved right on along and remarried, and is still having kids. God's fault????? I DON'T THINK SO.

Thinking about all the haters on here. Why can I imagine they like shows like Teen Mom, Desperate Housewives and Beverly Hills Housewives that are FULL of dysfunctional, ugly families? Yet, you want to criticize this family who try to do the right things in life?

And, reading these liberal people calling for sterilization or limiting family size, it's no surprise. The Progressives in the early 1900s wanted just that. Margaret Sanger who started Planned Parenthood promoted eugenics so they could limit the number of "undesirables" in the population. And, she wasn't targeting rich, white neighborhoods, folks! When she couldn't accomplish sterilization of them, she saw birth control and abortion as another method of controlling and limiting. And, the GREAT Progressive President Woodrow Wilson believed just like Margaret Sanger, that the 'undesirables" had to be kept from procreating. So, again, it doesn't surprise me one bit to hear all these liberal jerks on here talking like they do. They always think they're better and they know better what everybody else should be doing.

Surprise! It's the republicans! Apparently, the teen mom trash and desperate housewives are republican losers. No surprise to me.

I feel sad for them but at the same time, this feels more like an addiction than fulfilling a promise to God. I really hope they will stop and think before having another child. At her age, it is very dangerous for her and for the baby. They should enjoy the blessings they already have or if they are so determined to have baby 20, why not adopt?

That was my thought almost word for word. Addiction. It has just become what defines her and she seems to have no other identity. However, that is their right and as far as I can tell, unlike people like Octomom, they are paying their own way. As far as T.V. goes. I see things like Turtle Man, Swamp People and Hog Hunters advertised so...............................?????????? To each their own I guess!!

"This feels more like an addiction". Yes I was just about to comment on that very thing. ITA. Some women get addicted to being pregnant and can't or don't know when to stop. It s looks like it's the case with Mrs. Duggar. If so, she could benefit from some professional. I'm sure there is help available to deal with this type of addiction. I don't know what their doctors are telling them, if anything. Or if they listen to their doctor's advice. But I feel another pregnancy would really be pushing it and putting Michelle's and her baby's life at risk. Wasn't Josie's birth enough of a wake up call? And now with this miscarriage. Why put yourselves through that, Duggars? Please stop for your children's sake. Those children need their mother. If you want more children, there are plenty of unwanted kids out there waiting for good homes, like yours. Adopt adopt adopt.

I, too, feel that Mrs. Duggar has an addiction to pregnancy. Maybe the TV networks should feature a family where the mother (or the father) is addicted to prescriptiion drugs. Let's have equal time for addictions. What a shame that Mr. Duggar "enables" her addiction. Suppose he, too, has an addiction??

I am all for having kids if you can afford them and obviously the Duggers can afford their kids. I don't think it's fair to keep having children knowing the risks that are invovled the older you get. I don't think it's fair to bring a child in the world knowing their could be physical and mental problems. They have enough kids enjoy what you have and enjoy being grandparents.

The only reason the Duggars do well is because they don't pay for their healthcare and they don't pay any taxes. In other words, they are welfare queens.

I invite you to look into the face of a child and tell him or her that they are one of the "too many kids." When an insensitive person once told me, a mother of nine, that I had too many kids, my sweet 6 year old looked at me and said gently, "Mommy, you can give me up if you want." The children in a large family are taught to be unselfish, giving, loving, and caring about all. They are not the ones crying for more and telling us that life in unfair. Children are people, too!

What kind of quality of life do you think they're missing exactly? Sitting inside playing XBox, playing a DS, other crappy video games, Computer games, sitting on Facebook, oh, I know, bitching about other people on the computer? Calling people names? Threatening sterilization? Instead, you're running down a family who takes responsibility for every child they are blessed with, the kids know how to clean up after themselves, they know how to communicate!!!! What's your kid doing? Begging you for the next great video game? Running down adults on Facebook? Their teachers? Begging for a cell phone? Crying because they don't have the newest fashion jeans? I mean really!! Think about what you're saying! What is quality of life? If you're meaning material things, get over yourself. That's not quality of life. If you're talking about time together, I think they get it. There is no shortage of someone to talk to! Or get a hug from! These kids will know how to stand up and keep going! Living is actually hard work people! Kids now days could benefit a great deal from a little child labor! Cleaning the house, cooking a meal, sewing a skirt, these are called life skills!!!

Actually I just read an article yesterday where Dad was in charge of the little ones one day and was having a hard time cause the older girls normally are in charge of them. None of these kids are going to college, at least the boys get to go work for Daddy once they are old enough but the girls are built in nannys. They pay no property taxes on their house and WE pay for their health insurance cause he was a house rep for a term or two.

Most kids aren't going to college these days. Unfortunately, not because they can't afford it, but because they're too lazy and think their teachers ask too much of them. Yes, that is what several of the freshly minted high school graduates in our area believe. And as for paying for their health insurance because he was a House Rep, we also pay for Barney Frank, the Clinton's, and a HUGE list of politicians. So let's look at the whole picture, shall we? Maybe we should say, he served his country as a House Rep. Some of you should step up too!

"Because they're too lazy and think their teachers ask too much of them"? Really?

Try, 'because our nation's educational system is in the @!$%#ter.' Teachers haven't been teaching my fellow students (and myself) anything worth our time or what is important for our growth and our futures; they've been teaching us what 'this' textbook company prints in their books or what 'that' union says is "okay."

Today, educators do not educate; they dictate. Even worse, kids ARE going to college these days and for all the wrong reasons: one being that their parents used college as a threat ("Get into this school or we're cutting you off!") or because they're there to get a piece of paper that will hopefully earn them more money. Very few seek out higher education for the sake of intellectual and personal growth; hell, nowadays "personal growth" is attained in a frat house on the eve of a pledge's loss of virginity or a sorority girl's first keg stand. Hardly anyone knows what a "red herring" is or how to pronounce "Socrates"--nevermind who the hell he was or what logic actually is... and it's a damn crying shame.

The problem is that there is a surplus of college students and newly-grads who have been simply pushed through the educational system on the pretense of so-called preparation for the future. This pretense is what all of the teachers of your children talk about and expand upon on those professional development days--among other useless horse hockey. Elementary school supposedly prepares students for the transition to junior high; middle school supposedly prepares students for the transition to high school; high school supposedly prepares students for the transition into college--and for those who decide to not to go to college or--worse-- decide to drop out of high school are gangbanging heathen scumbags who are suddenly burning up all of our tax dollars.

...Tax dollars that wind up in TLC's pockets. Hmmmmm....

But I deviate. My point is that the educational system is in ruins and kids are going to college more often now than they ever were and all the wrong people are becoming teachers.

The level of intolerance here is unbelievable. As long as they're taking care of their kids' needs what business is it of yours?

You want to talk about being irresponsible? How about the woman that has 5 kids from 5 different fathers and never married one of them? She has the taxpayers paying for her kids because she doesn't have enough common sense to stop breeding. Or maybe she pumps them out to increase the size of her government check? Probably a combination of both. You want to chastise someone, go scream at her and the 5 sex partners that are avoiding taking responsibility for their offspring.

Put those women on a reality show. Bombard us all with news of their "personal" lives, and you'll see most of these bloggers doing the same thing.

How about the quality of life for the rest of her kids? Does anyone consider the kids they already have? If she were to lose her life in a risky birth, how responsible would it be to leave all of those kids behind? The risk is real. Why keep jepordizing your current children, in effort to make more?

This woman is too old and will be having damaged children from now on. How much pain is involved for the babies. She home schooled all the kids with a high school diploma and always preparing for another child to give to an older girl to become her charge, called their little buddy. No ones going to college unless they escape. The oldest boy has already married and produced 2 so far and working to catch up with mom and dad. I I read about this show because it was like looking at a train wreck. They follow a religion that undervalues women and children. Their outside contacts are well regulated and I feel very sorry for all the children left to be raised by their sisters. No boys get little buddies. Just a cult.

I see this everyday in the jail and the courtroom. We poor working people are supporting a lot of the under 30 population. They are irresponsible and lack the work ethic that most of us had while growing up. This is a sad state of affairs and is horrible. Fifty percent of the clients that I work with have several kids by all diffrent fathers, and if the client is the father he is usually not supporting any of his kids. The majority of them are all on welfare, SSI, SSDI, TANF, Foodstamps. They are the growing population of losers. I happen to like the Duggars, and I think they are turning out some good kids. Should they stop having kids, probably for health reasons. The kids would be much worse off if they lost thier mom, and I really don't think anything is worth that. For all the people who are complaining, look to your own communities there is plenty there to complain about.

Perhaps this one couple can afford to pop out as many children as possible, but what happens when their own children start producing ridiculous numbers of their own? This is not a sustainable lifestyle, and very real suffering will come of it. Their selfishness will come to roost on the very children they claim to love.

I started watching a little bit of the whole "Something-number-of-Kids and Counting" show a while back (reason for the title is because every time the Duggars would produce another child, the title of the show would change), but I have ceased watching it because the material and the parents' desired need to constantly produce children greatly disturbs me as a woman and an individual. Yet, what I don't understand during the time of this last miscarriage is just WHY Michelle Duggar will not come to an agreement that maybe having more children at this point is no longer her "purpose" as she sees it as. Yes, we women have the natural equipment to bear children - as many as we can carry, as many as we think we can HANDLE (physically, emotionally, financially, etc.), and as many as what our spouse wants as well. However, as women approach those years in there lives after bearing many children and come to reach their mid years, the question of "is having more children at this point SAFE for ME and my FAMILY?" Because you have to consider what health factors arise in older women that try to produce and successfully carry (and deliver) a HEALTHY baby. As stated by many medical physicians and many studies have proven that as the body ages, so does our cells deteriorate, which means in women our ovaries's genetic makeup becomes unhealthy, goes through deterioration, and forms abnormalities in those eggs that are fertilized which for those future children will most likely be born with deformities or grow up living a hard life - or rather having just a hard time LIVING in general. But what astounds me the most is the fact that the Duggars are failing or ignoring the bigger picture to what consequences lay in store for them if they continue to have children until... what - until Michelle goes through menopause - that is if she live long enough in her life to reach to that moment in aging? But yes, there is an extreme chance that if Michelle continues to put her body through having children that the process will not only bring more miscarriages or unhealthy children from this point on, but rather having more children now could kill her. Does this family even stop to think that they are endangering the mother by not putting an end to wanting more children? And besides that fact that these children are being neglected for not having remotely a childhood, but rather are forced into adulthood - into taking on the role of "mother" and the role of "father", which is not healthy in any family unit for many reasons. So, what I am wondering now is just when enough will really be enough - meaning they will finally find content into the amount of offspring that they have or maybe it will take the loss of Michelle Duggar through a difficult pregnancy to finally make them realize that their greed to produce children non-stop only because in their unstable thought process they believe it is God's will for them to have children - maybe then that will be the end of this story to this bizarre family's apparent motto to form baby-factory-like families. And what about the older Duggars, huh? Are they ever going to get the chance to go to college - to have many opportunities in their lives other than being like their parents (no college, no passion to pursue other things, and instead stay put in a house and make as many babies as they possible can)? I am a college senior about to graduate this year and I feel so proud for myself and for my family that I have bettered my own career opportunities and grasp a well-sense of knowledge by going to college and getting a BA. What the Duggar kids are missing out is not only education from a university, but also being educated about this country, about the laws, the cultures, the religions, the people themselves, the government, and much, much more. I am just so thankful that I was not born into a family like the Duggars because I would have been missing out on what is going on with the world as I would be raised to know no better, be home schooled so I would not get the opportunity to make more friends, and only share the values of my parents and have no other values and different opinions for myself. The Duggars live in a mechanical solidarity universe while the entire world lives in an organic solidarity society.
