• Does race in movies and on TV matter to young kids?

    There's been a lot of hype around Disney's debut of its first black princess in the movie "The Princess and the Frog." But some say that in the era of Sasha and Malia Obama, the historic nature of Tiana doesn't register with little kids. Do you think seeing characters like Tiana has an impact on children? Do your children see a diversity of characters on TV and in movies?

    I want my kids to understand that it does not matter what color the skin is it matters what the person is like once you get to know them.

      my nephew (white), when he was 5 or 6, was surprised to learn one of his uncles was black & he saw him frequently

        Now we as grownups need to drop the race card and just be people, friends, neighbors, cohumans. Take a lesson from the kids.

        the is no issue with the race of the haracter aslong as it follows the story line, like cinderella is from europe, Mulan is asian etc.

          If we're teaching them how important race is, then we're just setting things up for trouble. just let them be colorblind.
